ROUND TRIP
YANNI CHIA: PHOTO EXHIBITION
8-11 January 2022
STPI Creative Workshop & Gallery Level 4
41 Robertson Quay, S238236

“Round Trip” showcases a series of works by Yanni Chia which takes the viewer on a journey of escapism.
For most, these dreamscapes serve as a form of reverie, allowing one to escape their worldly concerns and anxieties. However, these non-existent realms of dreamscapes are nothing more than whimsical desires; which brings us to
question ourselves – what exactly are we escaping from?
In his dreamscapes, Chia recognises the duality of his works which may serve as a form of escapism but also present an opportunity to reconcile with and overcome one’s problems. Hence, this exhibition takes the viewer on “Round Trip” of escapism – to the other world and back.

Section 2: Structural Anxieties
Anamorphic projection, 2021
This room is filled entirely with one of Chia’s best works which have been featured in the National Gallery Singapore before. It reflects the anxieties of an increasing population in the highly-dense island-city of Singapore.
This artwork-filled room intends to enhance the feeling of claustrophobia, paralleled with these anxieties.
